Can you believe we only have a couple of months left of 2023?
Although the wetter, colder weather has set in, you can still make progress with your fitness goals, whether this is by heading to the gym, starting a group class or working out at home.
If you want to get active with a new sport but aren’t sure where to start, check out some of our handy tips below…
Choose the right sport
Consider your interests, physical fitness level, and the availability of facilities and equipment. Choose a sport that you're genuinely interested in and excited about.
Set clear goals
Are you looking to get fit, compete at a high level, or simply enjoy the activity
Find an instructor
Find a qualified coach or instructor who can teach you technique and provide feedback.
Don't rush into intense training or competition and instead begin with the basics.
Choose the right attire
Invest in quality gear that suits your skill level and needs and is also comfortable to wear.
Warm up and cool down
Always start with a warm-up to prepare your muscles and cool down afterwards to prevent injury and reduce muscle soreness.
Create a training schedule and stick to it. Don’t become discouraged if you progress slower than you thought!
Focus on technique
Building a strong foundation in the beginning will serve you well as you advance in the sport.
Join a community
Consider joining a sports club, team, or community group related to your chosen sport to provide motivation and support.
Track your progress
Keep a training log to track your progress, including personal bests, achievements, and setbacks.
Remember that sports are meant to be enjoyable. Don't get too caught up in competition or comparing yourself to others.
